Bikers Raise over $10,000 To Fight Breast Cancer

OCEANSIDE, NY—The Maurer Foundation hosted their fourth Annual Motorcycle Ride on Long Island on Saturday, August 12th. Sponsored by Herber Plumbing & Heating, bikers enjoyed 75 miles of scenic riding from Oceanside to Riverhead, despite the gloomy weather.

This event was started by The Foundation’s Executive Director, Susan Samaroo, as a great way for local bikers to have a fun day out with friends while raising money for a good cause. “We are thrilled to be the event sponsor this year and helping to raise more money than the event has ever raised,” stated Herber’s President and CEO, Bob Herber. “Most of us have been impacted by breast cancer in some way and understand how important it is to educate the community on this issue. ”

Over 40 participants raised funds to support The Maurer Foundation’s breast health education programs, which are presented to high schools, colleges, and community groups throughout Long Island. The education programs share practical tips on reducing breast cancer risk, including nutrition and exercise, and instruction on early detection techniques. Bikers donated $50 each to participate and were encouraged to raise additional funds in advance of the ride. Non-riders were also able to support the cause this year, meeting up at Joe’s Garage and Grill in Riverhead where they welcomed the bikers, enjoyed raffles, great food and listened to live music. Afterwards, the ride continued to Riverhead Ciderhouse, capping off a great day.
