Virginia E. Maurer, MD
Founder

Dr. Maurer is a nationally recognized leader in the field of breast health education. A graduate of Queen’s University School of Medicine in Kingston, Ontario, Canada, she is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and the Royal College of Surgeons of Canada. Dr. Maurer is a prominent breast surgeon and breast cancer specialist. She has been in private practice since 1981 and currently maintains two offices in the New York area.

A staunch proponent of breast cancer awareness, Dr. Maurer discovered that many women lacked access to pertinent and current information about breast health and breast cancer. She resolved to correct that deficit, establishing The Maurer Foundation for Breast Health Education in 1995. Today, she remains active in her role as Founder and Board Member.

Over the years, Dr. Maurer’s tenacity, compassion, and professionalism have made her one of the country’s leading advocates for women’s health care. She is a member of the Advisory Board of 1 in 9, the Community Advisory Board of Holiday House and former member of the Board of Trustees of the Greenvale School. She has been a member of the Society for the Study of Breast Disease, the American Medical Women’s Association, and the New York Metropolitan Breast Cancer Group. Dr. Maurer has two daughters and resides in Garden City, NY.

Andrew F. Corrado
Chairman

Mr. Corrado has more than twenty years experience in the banking industry. Currently, he serves as Senior Vice President and Long Island Private Banking Market Manager at Capital One Bank in Melville, NY. He has also held prominent and/or senior managerial positions at GreenPoint Financial, JP Morgan Chase & Co. and European American Bank (EAB). During his extensive career, Mr. Corrado has been responsible for overseeing complex marketing initiatives and programs involving multi-million dollar project budgets.

In his capacity as Board Member of the Maurer Foundation, Mr. Corrado’s expertise in financial matters has proven invaluable. He has further demonstrated his interest in philanthropy by serving as Board Member and Treasurer of Big Brothers, Big Sisters of Greater New York.

John H. Treiber, CPCU
Vice Chairman/Treasurer

John Treiber has more than thirty years of experience with The Treiber Group, rising through the ranks to President with responsibility for the general supervision of account relationships as well as the production of new business.

As a specialist operational enhancement, John developed the retail brokerage operating philosophy which resulted in a significant expansion of both the number and quality of carriers currently doing business with TTG. A business generalist, John frequently serves as a sounding board and resource for managerial brain-storming and emphasizes a client-centered approach towards providing risk management and insurance brokerage services.

A graduate of the University of South Carolina, John has the CPCU designation and has served on various broker panels for Utica Mutual, Hartford, Chubb, CIGNA, One Beacon and Kemper. He serves on the board of Winthrop University Hospital, the LIA Healthcare Alliance, the Tilles Center, The Maurer Foundation, the Rauch Foundation, the Energeia Partnership, the LI Caddy Scholarship Fund, the YMCA of LI, where he is former Chair, and the Wheatley Hills Golf Club, where he is a Past President.

Alice Y. Kim, MD
Secretary

Dr. Kim is a Board Certified physician in Radiology whose specialty is diagnostic radiology, particularly breast imaging.

Dr. Kim received her B.A. from Boston University and her M.D. from the Boston University School of Medicine. She completed her residency in Diagnostic Radiology at New York University Medical Center in New York City as well as a post graduate fellowship in Mammography.

Dr. Kim holds the position of Assistant Professor of Radiology at NYU Medical Center.

Dr. Kim is a member of the Radiological Society of North America, the American Roentgen Ray Society, the American Medical Women’s Association, the New York Roentgen Society, the New York Metropolitan Mammography Society and the Society of Breast Imaging.

Felice Axelrod

Before joining Bloomberg as a consultant for Special Projects, Felice was Senior Vice President of Protocol and Special Events at Lehman Brothers in New York. Previously, she served as Assistant to the President and Director of Special Events at Mount Sinai NYU Health and the Mount Sinai and NYU Schools of Medicine. Ms. Axelrod’s extensive experience in philanthropy also includes positions in fund raising, special events and public relations for the Museum of the City of New York and the New York Public Library.

Since 2000, Ms. Axelrod has served as president of the Council of Protocol Executives (COPE), a non-profit organization of professional event planners and protocol officers. She is also a member of the WILLpower (Women’s Initiatives Leading Lehman- Lehman’s Alumnae Network). Ms. Axelrod is deeply committed to issues of employee wellness. At Lehman Brothers, she coordinated the Medical Referral Program, providing employees and their families with access to specialists and institutions for health care and medical assistance.

Dolores Fredrich, Esq.

As Vice President for Legal Affairs and General Counsel to Hofstra University, Ms Fredrich is responsible for managing all aspects of the University’s legal matters. Prior to joining Hofstra University, Ms Fredrich was a partner at the Uniondale, New York Law Firm of Farrell Fritz, P.C. A member of the firm’s management committee, she also directed its commercial litigation department.

Ms Fredrich has previously served as President and Board member of the Long Island Coalition for Fair Broadcasting and as Vice President and Board member of the Long Island Fund for Women and Girls. She was a founding trustee of the Cradle of Aviation Museum, and served on the Board of the Nassau County Bar Association and as chair of various committees. She also served on the Advisory Board for the Nassau County Coalition Against Domestic Violence. She has thrice been named one of Long Island’s 50 most influential women by Long Island Business News.

Jon Santemma, Esq.

Mr. Santemma is a partner in Santemma & Deutsch LLC, Syosset, New York, the firm he founded in 1988 which concentrates on real estate tax review and eminent domain law. Mr. Santemma is editor and co-author of the texts, Condemnation Law in New York and the supplement to the Review and Reduction of Real Estate Taxes in New York. He has appeared throughout the State in real estate tax matters and has lectured in New York State, California, Texas and London, England.

Mr. Santemma has served as President of the Nassau County Bar Association and Vice President of the State Bar and President of the Fordham Law Alumni Association of Long Island. He was a long time trustee of the Village of Laurel Hollow, New York and has been recognized for various charity and community activities. He lives in Laurel Hollow with his wife attorney Carol Hoffman, and their daughter, Jessica, a student at George Washington University.

Kathy Weiss, PhD

Dr. Weiss received her BA in Mathematics from Syracuse University, her MA in Mathematics from the Courant Institute of New York University and her Ph.D. from New York University. She has devoted most of her career to the administrative aspects of education. From 1994 until 2005, Dr. Weiss served as Superintendent of Schools for the Baldwin Union Free School District. Previously, she spent five years as the Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum and Instruction for the Rockville Centre Public Schools and was principal in Malverne High School.

Dr. Weiss has made numerous local, regional and national presentations on such topics as cooperative learning, shared decision-making, peer coaching, whole language assessment, testing, child abuse, and evaluation of principals. Currently she is an adjunct professor at LIU, CW Post Campus in the Department of Educational Leadership & Administration, and an associate with School Leadership LLC, a company that assists school boards in searching for superintendents. Dr. Weiss has chaired The Maurer Foundation’s Program Committee for many years.
