The Maurer Foundation is so excited to announce the release of Marisa Marchetto’s paperback version of Cancer Vixen!!

For those of you who aren’t familiar with Marisa’s amazing work, aside from being the author of Cancer Vixen, she is a famous cartoonist for The New Yorker and Glamour. Her work has also appeared in The New York Times and Modern Bride, among other publications. Most importantly Marisa is the founder and chair of the Cancer Vixen Fund at St. Vincent’s Hospital in New York City-a charity that provides free mammograms to women without health insurance.

CANCER VIXEN is Marisa Marchetto’s graphic novel about her battle with, and victory over breast cancer without health insurance, causing her treatment to cost over 172K. In the novel, the author tells the story of her 11-month, ultimately triumphant bout with breast cancer–from diagnosis to cure, and every challenging step in between. This graphic memoir is a portrait of one woman’s supercharged life in Manhattan and a wonderful love story.

Since the release of the hardcover in 2006, Marisa has been instrumental in providing education and help to women with breast cancer, especially with her Cancer Vixen Fund, in which she raises awareness for women battling the disease without health insurance. Every year on National Mammogram Day, Marisa stands outside St. Vincent’s in NYC – where she had her treatment – and greets women standing in line for their free mammogram screenings. Cancer Vixen in paperback went on sale from Pantheon Books Tuesday, September 29.

Here at The Maurer Foundation we commend the great work Marisa is doing and wish her the best in a mission that so cohesive to our own.
