Celebrating 30 Years on the Green at our Golf Classic
It was worth the wait
On May 12th, The Maurer Foundation proudly marked a major milestone, the 30th Annual Golf Classic. Golfers gathered at The Mill River Club and Meadow Brook Club to swing for a cause that has driven this event for three decades. This year’s classic raised an outstanding $285,000 to help advance our mission.
The day began with a warm welcome and a delicious brunch before participants hit the putting greens and driving ranges. Returning by popular demand, the Pink Ball Contest added some light-hearted rivalry. Teams teased, laughed, and were determined not to lose their pink ball. Victory at Meadow Brook belonged to Steve Lazarro, Rich Ferucci, Nick Junta, & Al Janette, while Mill River’s top honors went to Don Gelestino, Vincent Paolucci, Jed Dallek, & Dimitri Naylor. Congratulations to both winning teams!
Continuing competition
The competition continued with the following winners at Mill River: 1st Low Team Gross (score 66) – Ron Wasserman, Shimon Betesh, Jeff Goodwin, & John Bloom; 1st Low Team Net (score 59) – Jack Schaefer, Rick Schaefer, Matt Canner, & Stephen Hansman; Men’s Longest Drive – Joe Azzopardi; Women’s Longest Drive – Damielle Montessano; Women’s Low Gross Mara Johston – (92); Women’s Low Net (81) – Chelsea DeLeon; Men’s Closest to the Pin – Bob Giminiak.
At Meadow Brook, the winners were: 1st Low Team Gross (score 70) & 1st Low Team Net (score 55) – Steve Lazzaro, Rich Ferucci, Nick Junta, Al Janette; Men’s Longest Drive – Robert Afenita; Women’s Longest Drive – Elaine Mana; Women’s Low Gross (110) – Mary McMahon; Women’s Low Net (85) – Mary McMahon; Women’s Closest to the Pin – Cheryl Webb; Men’s Closest to the Pin – David Chubinsky.

As the day transitioned into evening, guests gathered on The Mill River Club’s patio to enjoy gourmet fare, sip cocktails, and reconnect with old friends and new faces. A highlight of the celebration was the exhilarating live auction, filled with high-spirited bidding. Excitement peaked during the 50/50 raffle, where lucky winners collectively took home more than $17,000.
