The Maurer Foundation always welcomes the opportunity to educate young women in our local communities on how they can play an active role in their own breast health — and on January 29th, we had a chance to do just that! The Maurer Foundation was welcomed as a special presenter at the Long Island Beauty School Career Fair in Hempstead, where senior students and alumni were able to meet and greet with representatives from local salons and businesses, making connections that will help them launch their professional cosmetology careers.
These ambitious young women were also able to stop at our table and learn a little about a different kind of planning for the future: our life-saving message of breast cancer prevention and early detection. Just as a successful career requires planning and commitment, so does a lifetime of breast health. At the career fair, we were able to share invaluable information with attendees about the kinds of healthy lifestyle choices we can make to reduce our risk of breast cancer and the crucial importance of early detection, as well as demonstrating proper breast self-exam techniques.
The career fair was an exciting night with a lot of energy, and we offer our thanks to the Long Island Beauty School at Hempstead for inviting us to be a part of their special evening.
