The Maurer Foundation For Breast Health Education Awarded a Grant of $20,000, Thanks to Senator Carl L. Marcellino

For Immediate Release

Melville, NY, August 2018 – The Maurer Foundation, a non-profit organization, recently received a legislative grant of $20,000 in support of their mission to save lives. Senator Carl L. Marcellino of the 5th District was instrumental in helping to secure this grant. The funds will be used to maintain and expand The Maurer Foundation’s up-to-date breast health programs offered to adolescents and adults throughout Nassau and Suffolk Counties.

For over 20 years, these programs have been offered free of charge throughout the year and take place in high schools, colleges, community centers, businesses and health fairs.

In interactive classroom settings in high schools throughout Long Island, students get to learn about prevention, early detection and risk reduction of breast cancer. Included in the program are tips for implementing healthier lifestyle habits and learning how to perform a breast self-exam using MammaCare breast models, which is critical for early detection.

Since its inception in 1995, The Maurer Foundation, founded by breast surgeon Dr. Virginia Maurer, has directly impacted and empowered over 346,000 people.

Susan Samaroo, Executive Director of the Foundation stated, “Senator Marcellino and his legislature have been influential in helping to support our continued efforts in offering our breast health programs to more schools and community groups all over Long Island. For this, we are most grateful.”
