The Maurer Foundation Receives Grant from Tweezerman International

Mineola, NY, January 8, 2008 – Tweezerman International has awarded The Maurer Foundation for Breast Health Education a generous grant to support its breast health education workshops.  Support from Tweezerman International was raised through its 2007 Pink Ribbon Awareness Campaign.

“We are most grateful to Tweezerman International for its generous contribution,” noted Raquel Singh, Interim Co-Executive Director of The Maurer Foundation. “By supporting our breast health education workshops, Tweezerman International has ensured that we continue to deliver quality programs that empower communities to take charge of their own health.”

The Maurer Foundation serves more than 20,000 individuals each year.  Our programs emphasize early detection, risk reduction and healthy lifestyles to combat breast cancer and other chronic diseases.  The Foundation collaborates with schools, community groups, universities and city agencies to reach a broad and diverse audience.  We strive to convey essential facts about breast cancer and to enable individuals to become advocates of their own health through oral presentation, role-play, skill modeling and applied learning activities.  Our educators utilize important tools and hands-on materials to facilitate the learning process.

The Maurer Foundation for Breast Health Education is an independent, 501(c)(3) non-profit organization sanctioned to train and certify breast health educators in the MammaCare® System (backed by The National Cancer Institute) as well as being certified to directly provide community breast health programs.  It is the only organization nationwide providing free breast health education programs to adolescents in the classroom.  Since being founded in 1995 by Long Island breast surgeon Dr. Virginia E. Maurer, the Foundation has raised the level of breast health literacy throughout the metro area and brought direct service educational programs to individuals who may not have access to these resources otherwise.
