WABC-TV Teams with Maurer Foundation for “Progress & Promise” Annual Breast Cancer Awareness Special Feature

WABC-TV and The Maurer Foundation recently joined forces for “Progress & Promise” – a special presentation on breast self-examination, part of the station’s annual contribution to Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The segment, which ABC-7 aired on Saturday, October 7, 2006, featured the personal breast cancer story of Producer Joni Cohen Zlotowitz and her new approach to encouraging women to practice breast self-examination on a monthly basis.

The “CheckHer Party” combines a wine-and-cheese atmosphere with detailed instruction in breast self-examination. For the special airing of “Progress & Promise” Karolina Bizik, Program Manager for The Maurer Foundation, served as “CheckHer Party” breast health educator. Participants were shown, in a relaxed and fun setting, the proper way to perform breast self-examination while engaging in discussion about breast cancer risk reduction and common myths.

“We are most grateful to Joni Cohen Zlotowitz and ABC-7 for extending their gracious invitation to include our organization in this segment,” noted Kim Rozzi, Executive Director of The Maurer Foundation. “Increased visibility of our health promotion and disease prevention mission and activities ensures that more women are empowered to protect their own breast health.”
