As the year comes to a close, many of us reflect on what truly matters – health, family, and making a difference in the lives of others. At The Maurer Foundation, those values drive everything we do. Every lesson we teach, every student we reach, and every life we impact is made possible because of generous supporters like you.
The Only Program of Its Kind
We’re proud to be the only organization on Long Island using hands-on silicone breast models to teach self-exam techniques and the importance of early detection. Our certified educators make breast health approachable, relatable, and real for students of all backgrounds, including Spanish-speaking and underserved communities that often face the greatest barriers to care.
Now Is the Time to Give
This year, giving may be especially important. The new Tax Act passed in July includes upcoming changes that will affect charitable deductions beginning in 2026. Under the new rules, if you itemize on your federal tax return, charitable contributions will only be deductible to the extent they exceed 0.5% of your adjusted gross income (AGI). For example, a couple with an AGI of $125,000 would only be able to deduct charitable donations exceeding $625.
Because these changes take effect next year, many taxpayers may wish to accelerate their charitable giving into 2025 to maximize current deductions before the new limits begin. Another strategy to consider is “bunching” – making larger gifts less frequently to minimize the impact of the new deduction threshold.
The Ripple Effect of One Gift
When you support The Maurer Foundation, you’re not just giving once, you’re starting a ripple.
-One gift funds one presentation.
-One presentation reaches dozens of students.
-One student shares what they’ve learned with friends and family.
-And one life – maybe more – is changed forever.
Your Gift Saves Lives - Literally
Breast cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer among women, but early detection and risk reduction can dramatically improve survival rates. Through our Breast Health Education Programs, we bring those life-saving lessons directly into high schools, colleges, and community groups, reaching thousands of young people each year before they ever face a diagnosis.
When you give, you’re not just supporting education, you’re helping someone learn to recognize a change early, make healthier lifestyle choices, and potentially save their own life or the life of someone they love.
