Irene Q. Barcelon, MD

Irene is a Master of Public Health candidate in Stony Brook University who is in the process of completing the practicum requirements at The Maurer Foundation. Irene’s background and experience as a general practitioner in the Philippines motivated her to a career concentration in Community Health to promote health education for primary disease prevention. Since her sister’s breast cancer diagnosis and her father’s passing from lung cancer, Irene has been actively promoting lifestyle changes for cancer prevention.

Since 2010, media publicities comparing excessive sitting with smoking have increasingly been gaining public interest.
