Strength for Life
“Fighting cancer with exercise,” Strength for Life offers FREE exercise classes for all cancer thrivers regardless of type of cancer, gender, or treatment status. SFL provides all exercise equipment for participants to keep and certified professional instruction in a group setting. Classes are available throughout Nassau and Suffolk County. SFL provides free weekend wellness retreats 4 times per year. SFL’s Weekend Retreats offers a place of learning, connecting and respite for anyone who has ever been impacted by cancer.

Education

The Maurer Foundation for Breast Health Education
Provides educational breast health programming to high schools, colleges, nursing programs, community groups, businesses, and more. Workshops are free-of-charge and can be provided in-person or virtually in both English and Spanish. Presentations focus on risk reduction and the early detection of breast cancer, with an emphasis on conducting a breast self-exam. Lifelike breast models with suspicious lumps embedded are utilized for a tactile learning experience.

Stony Brook Cancer Center CancerWise Café
Stony Brook Cancer Center staff present an informative and interactive day to learn about the latest advances in cancer screening, prevention, diagnosis, management, and treatment of several types of cancers. The event led by cancer experts from the Cancer Center includes lunch and refreshments with the doctors, educational displays, community organization tables, and giveaways. No cost to attend.

Medical Screening

Cancer Services Program of Nassau County at LIJ Northwell Health
Comprehensive cancer screening and counseling services that directs individuals to designated medical facilities where breast, cervical and colorectal screenings are regularly performed free of charge for women and men who qualify for eligibility. If required, additional diagnostic testing is covered. For eligibility, patients must not have health care coverage or insurance must not cover the cost of cancer screening, must need financial assistance, must be legal residents of the state of New York, and meet the income-level and age requirements.

Cancer Services Program of Suffolk County at Peconic Bay Medical Center

Northwell Family Health Center at Huntington Hospital
The Northwell Family Health Center (formerly the Dolan Family Health Center) ensures that all members of our community have access to high-quality, culturally sensitive health care regardless of ability to pay. The Northwell Family Health Center offers the Pink Aid Program, a breast health program, which provides no-cost screening mammograms, diagnostic mammograms, MRIs, sonograms, and cyst aspirations to low-income women who do not qualify for these services under the NYS Cancer Services Program.

Stony Brook Cancer Center – Mobile Mammography
The Mobile Mammography Van team is on a mission to make sure any woman on Long Island, age 40 and older, who needs a mammogram has easy and convenient access with no prescription or insurance needed under the Cancer Services Program (CSP). The van offers 3D mammograms. Appointments recommended.

Patient Support Services and Financial Assistance
Adelphi NY Statewide Breast Cancer Hotline & Support Program
Individual and family counseling services provided by licensed social workers and masters level social work interns. Telephone counseling is available statewide along with in-person, and virtual counseling in English and Spanish languages. Our statewide hotline is staffed by professionally trained, supervised volunteers, all of whom are breast cancer survivors and is available 365 days a year, from 9 AM to 9 PM. Comprehensive support groups (offered in English and Spanish), as well as educational programs, are available to breast cancer patients, their families, and caregivers year-round, and are held both in-person and virtually.

Babylon Breast Cancer Coalition (BBCC)
Patient support services, education, and advocacy programs for residents of the township of Babylon. The Lend a Helping Hand Program provides direct services to individuals recovering from recent breast or gynecological cancer surgery and those undergoing chemotherapy and/or radiation for those cancers. Clients choose from a variety of services that include, but are not limited to, house cleaning, door-to-door transportation, financial assistance, massage therapy, prepared food, and childcare. Biweekly Moving on Support Programs, Writing to Heal/Meditation and Reiki Healing Circles are held in person for clients and caregivers at a local community room.

Coalition for Women’s Cancers (CWC)
The CWC provides support for women and families on the Eastern End of Long Island, including the towns of Southampton, East Hampton and Shelter Island. The CWC provides help and funding for: peer-to-peer support, gasoline gift cards, grocery gift cards, heating bills, dental work, housecleaning, rent, eyeglasses, food trains, babysitting, health insurance premiums, automobile repair, ambulatory trips, therapeutic massage, transportation, salon services and wigs.

Memorial Sloan Kettering (MSK) Cancer Center Food to Overcome Disparities Program
The FOOD Program is working to alleviate food insecurity and increase awareness of how food insecurity impacts a patient’s ability to fight cancer. FOOD operates 14 pantries co-located in cancer clinics serving patients in Manhattan, Queens, Brooklyn, the Bronx, and Long Island. Pink Aid’s mission is to help underserved local women survive breast cancer treatment with support and dignity, to provide screening to women in financial need, and to empower breast cancer survivors to heal by helping and inspiring others. United Breast Cancer Foundation (UBCF)
UBCF aids in providing education and financial assistance for screenings, treatment, after-care, reconstructive breast surgery, and family services. UBCF also provides high quality donated merchandise including clothing, personal care items, household goods, children’s apparel, and more through our Network of Giving Program. The Individual Grant program offers support geared towards individual needs. UBCF offers financial assistance with holistic care services such as supplements, counseling, mind-body therapies, massage and more. The Child Sponsorship Program provides support for healthy food, assistance with medical treatments, counseling services, back to school clothing and supplies, and holiday gifts for children of breast cancer patients. The Audrey B. Mastroianni College Scholarship for students who have suffered the loss of a parent or guardian to breast cancer or are living with a parent impacted by breast cancer. The Breast Screening Program provides reimbursement to approved applicants to offset the cost of regular breast screening while allowing applicants the freedom to choose their own provider and modality.

Patient Support Programs

American Cancer Society (ACS)
The American Cancer Society offers programs and services to help you during and after cancer treatment. Ambulatory cancer patients are offered ground transportation to and from cancer-related medical appointments. ACS, in a cooperative effort with hotels across the country, provides free overnight accommodations to cancer patients who must travel far for outpatient treatment and need assistance with lodging. The Cancer Survivors Network provides a safe online connection where cancer patients and caregivers can find others with similar experiences.

Cleaning for a Reason
