Susan came to The Maurer Foundation with over 20 years of nonprofit experience, having excelled in all aspects of the industry. Her strategic and innovative approaches to program development, business networking, operations and community outreach positions the foundation for financial success thus increasing the ability to spread our life-saving message. She remains an active member of several committees on Long Island which vary in focus from children to education to healthcare. Susan’s accomplished background and key strengths make her an excellent asset to the foundation’s team. In her spare time she enjoys jet skiing, zip lining and playing sports with her husband and two sons.
Eileen comes to us with over 13 years of experience in nonprofit settings. The mission of the organization to save lives through education is what drew her to the Foundation. Eileen has designed and implemented training programs for health and human service providers as well as the general public. She has also created and conducted programs that encourage students to make healthy lifestyle choices and avoid harmful behaviors. In her free time, Eileen enjoys taking Spin classes, reading and spending time outdoors with her family.
Breast Health Educator
Kathy joined the Maurer Foundation in 2012 after many years of working in financial services. Her transition from the corporate world to the non-profit world came about due to her passion for educating others and her strong interest in the breast education programs the Maurer Foundation provides. She’s a firm believer in the power of education and gets to see, firsthand, the impact the Maurer Foundation is making. When she’s not delivering school and corporate programs, Kathy is a very active volunteer working at various fundraising events with the American Cancer Society, American Diabetes Association and the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. On her “off days,” she can typically be found volunteering at blood drives sponsored by the New York Blood Bank. She also enjoys traveling and family time.
Breast Health Educator
Jessica, native of Puerto Rico recently joined The Maurer Foundation in March of 2016 as a Bilingual Breast Educator. She has over 10 years of experience in non-profits, including work with other cancer service programs on Long Island. In 2011, Jessica was the first woman in New York State to complete her certification for the National Board of Certified Medical Interpreter. She is currently working on a Bachelors Degree in Health Care Administration at SUNY Empire State University. During her free time, Jessica likes to spend time with her husband, four children and friends.
Janet Fernandez is a certified public accountant, a certified divorce financial analyst and a chartered global management accountant and has been with The Maurer Foundation since 2008. She also serves as a Board Member for Independent Group Home Living Program, Inc. Janet specialized as a fully dedicated non-profit auditor with a large accounting firm before starting her own CPA firm. Janet is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, the New York State Society of Certified Public Accountants, and The Institute for Divorce Financial Analysts. She received her Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree in Accounting from Long Island University, graduating summa cum laude.
Marcella is a graduate of Sacred Heart University in Fairfield, Connecticut, where she obtained a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration and a Master’s Degree in Teaching. Marcella joined The Maurer Foundation in September 2015. When not working, Marcella enjoys traveling and spending time with family and friends.
Administrative Assistant & Breast Health Educator
Lauren is a graduate of Sarah Lawrence College where she earned a Master’s degree in Women’s History. She also holds a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science from Marist College. Lauren is excited to join the Maurer Foundation and bring her passion for women’s social justice to the Maurer team. In her free time Lauren enjoys volunteering as a Girl Scout Leader, baking, collecting children’s books, and spending time with her family.
Debbie joined the Maurer Foundation after a 20 year career working as an independent consultant providing fundraising, event planning and membership management services to not-profits, primarily in the health care arena. She views working at the foundation as an excellent opportunity to combine her education in nutritional sciences and health care administration with the work she has been doing more recently as an event planner and working with volunteers. In her spare time she enjoys calligraphy and spending time with her husband and two daughters.
Christina came to the The Maurer Foundation in Feburary 2015. Currently, she is attending St. Joseph’s College to earn an M.B.A. in Accounting. Christina previously worked for an animal hospital for 12 years, and has a Bachelors in Marine Science.
As The Maurer Foundation web designer, April maintains the website and helps get the word out about the Foundation. She is the former publisher of the ReSprout Lean & Green Guide, has served on the board of the Long Island U.S. Green Building Council, and has been a professional writer and graphic designer all her life. In her spare time, she helps other small business and non-profit clients communicate their vital message through her web design and content marketing business Zubko Media.
